Introduction


The Import Precincts Areas page allows you to quickly create a Voter Universe made exclusively of precincts by uploading a spreadsheet that contains a list of precincts. Once the universe has been created, it can be used just like any other universe created in the Create Voter Universe page. The Precinct Import page allows you to create universes by Standard Precincts, Sub-Precincts, and Election Precincts.

  • To access the Import Precincts Areas page, hover the mouse over the Actions section of the Navigation Menu, hover your mouse overImport Data, and click Import Precincts Areas in the sub-menu.

 

Importing the File


 

A list of precinct types are listed below:

  • Precinct w/Sub - These are both precincts and sub-precincts, which determine an individuals voting district.
  • Precinct - These are standard precincts, which determine an individuals voting district.
  • Poll. Precinct - These are election precincts also known as polling precinct. These precincts determines a voters polling location.

 

Importing the Precinct File into a Universe

  1. Click the Browse button to select a file from your computer to upload.
  2. Use the Select File Type drop-down menu to select the type of file you are uploading. Note: If you are uploading a CSV or TSV file select Text Files.
  3. If the first row of the file contains a header, activate the First Row contains Column Title checkbox.
  4. (Optional) If you are uploading a non-Excel file, use the three radio buttons below to select how the columns in your file are separated.
    1. If your file uses a separator other than a tab or comma activate the Other radio button and use the textbox to enter in the separating character.
  5. Click the Continue to Field Mapping button to upload the file.
  6. Use the Select Column with ID value to Match drop-down menu to select the type of precincts the file contains. Note: Please review the sub-section above for information about these options.
  7. Use the Select Column with Matching Field Value drop-down menu to select which column of the uploaded file that contains the precincts.
  8. Use the Universe Name textbox to assign a name to the universe.
  9. Use theUniverse Categorydrop-down menu to set the folder for the universe.
  10. Click the Import button to upload the file.
